"Special Lunch of the Week"

Is this a worldwide problem...? Since last week we have had to increase the prices of some of our menu items at this time of year when everyone is struggling. Now, the price increase from the wholesalers is so steap. The other side of the story is the news above.

The fried shrimp menu will increase by £1 to £2.

We try to use as much local produce as possible and most of our food is homemade, but we also use a lot of imported food from Japan.... The main products affected are prawns, breadcrumbs, rice and soy sauce. Sooner or later, soybeans will also become unavailable, and the price of tofu products will not be far behind. If this continues, I think we will have to change our menu quite a bit. Anyway, we are going to resume our "Special Lunch of the Week" where we can offer you a Japanese menu using locally available ingredients. This week, it's either "Chicken Teriyaki Lunch" or "Fried Tofu Teriyaki Lunch (v)". Look forward to seeing you there!

May Wagashi and Events

   Is it really May? 😖

It's still cold in the mornings and evenings here on the south coast of England.

But the days are flying by, so we're trying to enjoy the moment and keep up with the calendar.

The Brighton Art Festival, held every year in May, seems to be going ahead, and we decided to turn cafe an-an into a private art gallery while the inside seating is unavailable. This is an exhibition and sale by a group of Japanese artists called the Koshukai. They will be exhibiting and selling their vibrant Japanese paintings, coloured with mineral paints and pine resin, as well as traditional Japanese paper cut-outs.

The exhibition will be held until Saturday 15th, so please feel free to come along.

From 17 May onwards, we would like to offer art workshops and other activities after 3 o'clock, so that people can sit in the cafe. To protect our social distance, we have a small capacity, but we will let you know the timetable and other details in the next newsletter, so stay tuned.

Outside table service has started!

At last. Yes, finally. It's like coming out of a long hibernation.

****

We've started serving outside tables in the café, but everything is not going as planned and we're getting impatient. Well, we don't have the money, so we have to do things in a jiffy, but even that is not enough and we don't feel like we are making any progress.

So the evolution of an-an is still stagnant, but we hope to make it a place where everyone can relax in between shopping and work soon, so please watch over us with a big heart.

****

Seating in the cafe is not yet available.
The service on the terrace will be as follows

Opening at 9am Drinks and sweets are always available for purchase.

11.30am - 2.30pm Lunch service

Closing at 3 o'clock

When you arrive, please place your order at the counter. Once you have placed your order and paid for it, you will be shown to your table.

We will continue to sell Japanese food, second hand books and Jack & Mei accessories in the shop. We ask that you enter the shop one group at a time and use masks and hand sanitisers.

****

During the holidays we will be offering the Kids' Free Meal that you bought tickets for last year. Please make sure you bring your child with you when you come to pick them up by the 10th. Please make sure you bring your children with you when you come to pick them up.

Forget about games and TV for a while!

Please let them know if there are parents who needs to bring their children, and please feel free to bring your Guardian/Parents and sit together as it is a no purchase necessity.

I'll let you know if there are any changes.

For now, this is my dream plan. I wonder what will happen....

April's Sweets and Events

It feels like the long winter is finally over.
I think we may need more time to wake up from our long hibernation.

Anyway, people around us are getting vaccinated more and more, and it is easy to get excited, but the basic thing is to wash your hands and wear a mask. But the basic rule is to wash your hands and wear a mask. This will prevent the spread of germs other than COVID19.

However, we would like to think that this is the last time we will have a lock down, so we will be releasing the meal vouchers for the children that have accumulated and not yet been used, during the Easter school holidays.

This time we will be offering 3 different menus for the price of 2 meal vouchers. Choose from our medium hot curry with chicken Katsu, chicken Katsu lunch or chicken Katsu yakisoba.

For vegetarians, seasonal roasted vegetables (leeks, broccoli & asparagus) will be served in place of the chicken Katsu.

The only condition is that you come and collect the meal with your school child(en) under 10. We will give you a tickets on your arrival.

Now that the weather is finally pleasant, we want you to forget about TV and games and come outside as much as possible. This free hot meal will be available until Saturday 17th, or as soon as we finish 100 meals. Please feel free to use this service.
