This Saturday's sales and ....where has summer gone?

This morning, the view from my house is like this.

Very heavy Cloud above us.
The highest temperature is only 20C.
Where has the 30C weather gone???
Awwww.....(T_T)

**************

I have a stall at Brighton Farm Market this Saturday! Yey!

Because of personal reasons, I could not have a stall in this place for nearly two years, but they welcomed warmly. Such a lovely place.

I am so excited.

Is everyone still there?

http://www.brightonfarmmarket.co.uk/Home.html

It opens at 9am and finish at 6pm.
It is only 10 min walk from Brighton British Rail Station.
Walking towards the sea from the station, you turn left into North Road.
After you pass post office, you can see a large wooden gate on your left.
You might see a greengrocer selling fresh veges at the gate.
There are so many kinds of stalls in such a small ally way.

The cafe at the end will serve a lovely lunch and drink, too.

On Saturday, it seems to be a bit cooler, so I will take usual Daifuku Mochi and Ichigo Daifuku, and Dorayaki (photo). Some summer drink with Green tea and Tapioca pearls will be served, too.

    So,...Summer, come baaaaaaaack!!!!

    Friday 19 July 2013

    Planing this Summer holiday

So, I am into a kind of  short break after a delivery in Hove yesterday.

There were requests to have a stall sale in Markets in Brighton from more than a few people.
Sorry to say, but I could not book a space for tomorrow.  My application reached to the organizers too close to the date.

However, an-an might be able to have a stall in the Old Stein in Brighton on the 3rd Saturday of next month. Once I received more detail, I will let you know.

    One more...
I am having a second thought...
There is an Artisan Market on the seaside of Shoreham, which is a small town between Brighton and Worthing. I am sure, if the weather is good, I can expect quite a large footfall. Well, if the weather is good...

I have sent more application for having a stall in various Food markets in and out London. As soon as it's fixed, I will let you know the detail here.

Please keep eyes on this blog, if you miss Ichigo Daifuku!!!

    Vege Fried Noodle. Good amount.
As I like fresh herbs, I was so happy to have
spring onion and water cress on top!
    Jasmine Tea is only £1.00.

I visited the newest Japanese Cafe? Eatery? in Hove. It is called "OO-MY(Tasty in Japanese)". The shop opened only two months ago.

You will find this small cafe on the left hand side of the road coming down from Portslade Rail Station to the sea. Portslade Station is only 3 stops from Brighton towards Worthing.

A lot of people has an impression of Japanese Restarant/ Cafe as...
    All are sooooo EXPENSIVE!!! (T-T)

You will see it's wrong at this cafe!

    Reasonable!

Tasty! (as the cafe's name says...)

And...the owner is Handsome! (ah-well, he said so... )

If your friends are an entry level of Japanese food, this cafe is just right to introduce. Katsu-Curry (£3.70), Japanese Style curry with deep fried breaded Chiken fillet, and a bit spicy Japanese Style Vege Fried Noodle(£3.70) are popular.

The owner is a professional fisherman (according to him), so he serves a small plate of Sushi, too.

It's a handy treat for "not- so rich" Japanese like me.

However, there are only 3 tables in the cafe. Please go there a bit earlier than lunch time to avoid disappointment. Of course, you can take away all the dishes.

    Here comes the Summer festival.

I only had a chance to take photo at the after mass.
All most all the boxes are empty.
    Big thanks!

Thanks for coming to Maeda Gakuen Summer Festival on the Saturday.

    It was soooo HOT.

I cannot say anything other than that.
When I left home at 9 am, the sun was already strong and I felt my arm was burning so hot. On the arrival at 10:30 am, as soon as I stepped out the air-conditioned car, I was covered in sweat.

NO! this should not happen, as I am selling some cool summer sweets!!!

    *****************

This year's theme was B-rank Gourmet. So I made the

"Cold adzuki drink with tapioca pearls and fresh cream in Southern Coast Style."

Sorry, I don't have any photo of that.
We just did not have any moment of take out our mobile and take photos.

Why Thai = Southern Coast Style?
You might think.  Well, as long as I know, there are so many Thai ladies, who got married with British males. In the ratio, Thai ladie's population would be very high. They are very nice and friendly. There are so many Thai restaurants in Worthing, too.

Sometimes I see some Thai ladies come out to the beach in early morning and they catch sea shells and small crabs. That scene was something not like very Briton.

Then, I came up with this idea.

A lot of tapioca pearls and ice goes into a cup full of azuki drink. There was choices of single cream or coconuts milk on top...well, as we forgot tin opener, we could not serve the coconuts version.

It's really tasty. You will be crazy. They were very popular.
....Well, Tapioca pearl drinks are popular, anyway.

The hardest time for this drink was when I was cooking Tapioca pearl. It took such a long time and a lot of water and skills... But I was sooo happy as people liked it!!!

I am thinking about making it again for the events in August and September.
    You have to try next!

Finally, BIIIG Thanks to Noake, who helped me for whole day.
Thanks for bringing whole of my freezer basket.
The freezer basket was attached by a thermometer for fridge/freezer.
It was pointing over 30 degree all day long...although, inside of our gazebo. It did not matter if it was in or out of the shade.

As I was cooking in that Gazebo, I was nearly dead on the way home.

Thanks for coming to the event in that hot weather.
I will see you in the next event in august!

    Something depressing about ...British Summer

    Wow, it's July.... Already.
it's been too cold to call this "Summer".

    Today's highest temperature was 22 C-degree"
It's a bit like spring weather in Japan.

Some people who live in Japan envy this, as it's soooo hot over there. However, there is a downside.
There are so many Summer Wagashi in Japan. But they are not selling at all as it is not hot enough.

Therefore, it's really rare houses has cooler (air-con). Today weather focus said that temperature at night is just above 10 degree. We never know if there is such a night which is hotter than 25 degree. It is really comfortable in duvets.

However, there is some problem in British Summer.

It's because of the building structure.
Japanese traditional Housings has very good air movement. You will feel cool wind almost all the time during Summer.
On the other hand, British houses are designed to keep warms inside. So during summer, warm air get trapped inside of rooms and get hotter and humid. In the end, it won't be very easy night to sleep.

    What?
    We should open windows???

It's not so easy. The problem is we cannot install net windows on either inside nor out side of the window. Normal windows opens outwards. Well, sliding windows are very rare.

Then, there is a kind of insects which came from other warmer place through international logistics. The insect started living well here because of global warming, I guess.

    And, that insect is called....

    Mosquitoes

They are HUGE. If they bite, it's really itchy!
They come into house freely as there is no obstacle on the windows.

I really don't like the buzzing sound in the dark bedroom when a mosquito fly around my ear.

Then, next morning, I would already scratch off a few biting marks.

    Awww... British Summer....

    Monday 1 July 2013

So, this is the final performance?

    Have you eaten Minaduki?

It's a sweet for hoping a good health eaten on the middle day of the year, which is 30th June.
I think this time I managed to make this beautiful... in taste and looks! w

    "OMG!"

While I was tweeting like this, one week has already gone.

    What did I do?

I was baking for my daughter's birthday party, applying for events in September and October...and checking prices of suppliers online. That's all.

    *****************

Oh, yes! One thing I was presently shocked happened during this week.  While I was giving up some time for my friend's hair dressing assignment, I received a phone call from my daughter's school. It was about her choir concert.

Her classmate's parents were getting married and they asked the school choir to sing during their ceremony. I have already signed "not attending" on the reply slip with the reason of Saturday Japanese School in Croydon.

But, the deputy head teacher asked me, "Sara is singing a solo part, so can she take a day off from the Japanese school?" What can I do apart from saying "OK, I will do something about that."

I was in this situation when I received the phone call.
    A bit like a celeb, aren't I? Haha.

Well, it was her birthday, and she has been asking, "Why am I practicing so hard if I don't get a chance to be in a show???"
So, we decided that she was not going to Croydon on the day. However, it triggered another problem.
My son noticed my daughter would not going to Japanese school. Almost immediately, he started saying he was ill and crying because of a terrible headache. I knew there was nothing with him.

    However, my husband said,

"On my daughter's birthday, I just don't want to have any miserable feeling. Let my son to have a day off from Japanese school."

    I really lost a word.
In the end, HE did not want to do anything complicated. HE wanted to have an easy day.

And, HE NEVER knows how difficult to put the routine of Japanese school back to normal. If I was not busy for preparing for daughter's birthday party, I would take him to Croydon any way, even if he would take class or not.

As he was not ill at all. In fact, he was running around with laughter in Brighton a few hours later.

Anyway, my daughter seems to have sung very well, as people told me how lovely she was.

    *********************

On Sunday, my daughter's party guests were there at a local leisure centre. There were some cancellation, so 18 children in total (not 20, as planned initially.)

It started at 2pm and trampolining for one hour. Tea started from 3 o'clock.

Yes, it was really a Tea Time!

What I did was I prepared the Traditional High Tea + alpha.

What is "alpha"? It's a bit of Japanese taste my daughter asked me.

First plates with finger sandwich (cucumber&cheese, ham and jam), vege sticks, crisps ...and Sushi.
Second plates with chocolate brawny, choux filled with custard cream, banana toffee cup cakes
Third plates with scones with fresh cream and strawberries

    How is that?

    *********************

After the party, I was totally burnt out and gone on the sofa in my front room.

When I woke up, it was just before the final act of this year's Glastonbury Music Festival.

    The xx!!!!!!!

How cool is that??? I was so happy that I could managed to catch them, although I missed all other performance!!!

I should be able to watch some catch up on iPlayer.

    *********************
Well, Aduki beans are ready in the pan. I shall go back to the kitchen.

    Bye for now. <3
